"Unpretentious and lively with windows onto the street,
Zanny's Cafe is a great spot for people-watching and drinking strong
coffee ($1.35) made of beans from Dallis Brothers, one of New York's

COLUMBIA
NEWS
"Tim Sheehy, a graduate film
student in Columbia's School of the Arts, has won the 1999 Sundance
Channel and Time Warner Cable short filmmaking contest for his film
Turnstile. Shot
in one day at Zanny's Cafe on 108th
and Columbus, Turnstile was Sheehy's second-year film for the Columbia
program. The 6-1/2-minute, 35-mm film examines a brief interaction
between three young people; Sheehy describes it as a "concentrated
moment, shot on one location, taking a simple incident and elaborating
on it."

| "When
Zanny's opened in the neighborhood, we all did a little dance. It
was one of the few places along Columbus above 100th where you could
sit down and have a coffee. Now there are a couple coffee shops in
the area, but Zanny's is close to my heart. They
make great sandwiches for a quick meal and are one of the few places
in the neighborhood that makes real hot chocolate, meaning not from
a powder. Also, Wednesdays it's movie night with an $13 prix fixe
that will get you any main meal off the menu, a bottle of beer, and
a dessert." -- Heather H. |
